Posted March 26, 2019 06:02:49 A $2 million loan from the Federal Government to the state of New South Wales to buy football tickets is to go to a private company.
The State Government announced the loan to the private investment firm Blackstone Group on Monday.
It was announced by Finance Minister Nick Minchin, who will attend a meeting of the New South Welsh Government’s football-specific finance committee on Thursday.
He said the loan was to help fund the redevelopment of the state’s state-of-the-art stadium, which is set to open in 2021.
“It will go towards buying a few hundred tickets to see the Eagles play at Suncorp Stadium,” he said.
“The purpose of this loan is to help finance a new stadium and to help create jobs in the state.”
We are committed to working with Blackstone to build a great football venue for our football community.
“The stadium, built in 1998, has already been used for six NRL matches and is one of the world’s most-watched stadiums.
The Premier League and AFL will host a Super League clash at the stadium in 2019.
